Award and recognition:

Prof. Anjan Barman, Senior Professor, Department of Condensed Matter and Materials Physics, S N Bose Centre has been elected for the fellowship of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore.

Research achievements in January, 2020:
  • Demonstrated Si compatible MoO3/MoS2 core-shell quantum dots for wavelength tunable photo detection in wide visible range. It is found that a very controlled oxidation occurs in the MoS2 colloidal quantum dots under the ambient condition giving rise to oxide/MoS2 core-shell structure.
  • Origin of Unusually High Fluorescence Anisotropy of 3-Hydroxyflavone (3HF) in Water investigated. Formation of an intermolecular hydrogen-bonded cage-like probe-solvent cluster of 3HF in water is found.
  • Edge localization of spin waves in antidot multilayers with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy established. Using time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect measurements it has been demonstrated that the variation of the antidot shape introduces significant change in the spin-wave spectra, especially in the lower frequency range.
Events:
  • Celebration of "127th Birth Anniversary of Satyendranath Bose" and opening of "S.N Bose Archive" on 1st January, 2020 at the S N Bose Centre, Kolkata.

    • 24th S.N Bose Memorial Lecture by Prof. Supriyo Datta.
    • Lecture on " Emergence of Modern Science in Colonial India: The German connection” by Prof. Debashish Mukherjee.
